Chasing the Rare & Endangered with Paul DiFiore and Tania Pena

$100 Per Attendee

Balcones Songbird Tours offer expertly guided, intimate access to the refuge and serve as one of our largest annual fundraisers. All proceeds directly support refuge management and conservation efforts.

Join expert birders for a special tour at Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge this April, where we’ll search for some of the Refuge’s rarest and most endangered songbirds!

This tour will take you across the Refuge, offering the chance to explore a range of habitats and hear the distinct songs of two of the Hill Country’s most sought-after species. We’ll visit the shady, relatively moist woodlands of oak and juniper, where we’ll listen and look for the elusive Golden-cheeked Warbler — a true Hill Country treasure. At the other end of the Refuge, we’ll move into thickets and scrubby oaks, sumacs, and greenbriars to listen for the raspy, unmistakable song of the Black-capped Vireo.

Along the way, we hope to encounter a variety of other Hill Country birds, making this tour a well-rounded experience for birding enthusiasts of all levels. The trip will be led by species experts who will help you identify vocalizations and provide insight into the unique behaviors and habitats of these special birds.

If you’ve ever wanted to see and hear some of the most endangered songbirds in Texas while exploring the diverse landscapes of Balcones Canyonlands, this is the tour for you! Space is limited, so register soon to secure your spot.
