Join us for a bird language tour at Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge this April, where we’ll explore the fascinating language of birds!

Whether you’ve been birding for years or you don’t know an eagle from a sparrow, this tour is designed for all experience levels. Understanding bird language is an ancient skill that people have used for thousands of years to navigate and survive in the natural world. Birds are essentially the news reporters of the ecosystem, alerting each other (and us) to the location of food, water, shelter — and most importantly, danger. Keenly aware of their surroundings, birds provide an audible and visible soundtrack to the environment, giving us insight into the subtle shifts and movements of other species nearby.

This event will begin with an introduction to bird language and behavior. Then, we’ll move into a “bird sit” where you’ll have the chance to sit quietly and observe the bird activity in your area. Finally, we’ll regroup for a debrief, piecing together the patterns and behaviors you and your fellow participants observed. This collective understanding will give you a deeper appreciation for how birds communicate and respond to the world around them.

If you’ve ever wondered what the birds are really saying, this is your chance to find out! Space is limited, so register soon to secure your spot.
