This season, gather your loved ones for a Holiday Family Hike filled with fresh air, laughter, and discovery at Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. Together, we’ll play a lively game of Nature Bingo, spotting wildlife and seasonal treasures along the trail.
Breathe in the crisp Hill Country air, listen for bird songs, and let nature be the backdrop for your family’s next favorite holiday tradition. Whether you’re local or visiting for the season, this joyful outing is a wonderful way to slow down, reconnect, and celebrate the simple magic of time spent outdoors.

We will enjoy Hot Cholocate together after the Hike.
Registration is FREE. When you register, we invite you to support Friends of Balcones with an optional donation to help us continue bringing families and nature together all year long.
Who Should Join:
Families with children of all ages who are ready to explore, laugh, and discover the wonders of the refuge together. The hike takes place on the Martin Tract, an easy and family-friendly trail perfect for young adventurers.
What to Bring:

Time:
Plan for 1.5–2 hours of easy hiking. Trailhead has access to restrooms for your convenience.
Location
Martin Track is located at BCNWR Headquarters: 24518 Ranch Road 1431, Marble Falls, TX
Arrival Details:
Since the Headquarters and Visitor Center is closed on weekends, a hike leader will meet you at the main gate to the Refuge Headquarters and let everyone in before the hike. Please before the 9:30 start time so we can check in and start on time. Once the hike begins, the gate will be closed and unattended.
Group Size: Sign up today, Registration is limited to 25 participants for this hike.
Weather Advisory and Other Cancellations: In the event that we need to cancel due to extreme weather or other unforeseen conditions you will be notified via email and text at least two hours prior to the hike start time.
Participant Cancellations: Our hikes are popular and often have wait lists, if you need to cancel, we ask that you try to do so at least 48 hours in advance so that a wait-list participant is notified in adequate time to be able to join us on the trail!
