Description

Special First Day Hike – January 1, 2026
Start the New Year with a Peaceful Hike in Nature!

Kick off 2026 with Our guided hiking tour on our beautiful Warbler Vista Public Trails. This moderate paced hike is a great introduction to the trail system at the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. With stops along the way to discuss the birds, plants, history, geology and habitats of the Refuge. We see many native plants and beautiful views along the way.

Who Should Join:
This moderate hike is learning about the beautiful Refuge right in Austin’s backyard, this guided tour is for you! Spend time with experts on the trail learning about this beautiful environment that is open for you to visit year-round! We consider this a moderate difficulty hike due to the inclines, descents, and the occasionally rocky or slippery portions of the trail. We hike at a moderate pace, with about 8-9 pre-determined stops.

What to Expect on the Trail:

  • Trek on 2.1 miles of well maintained trails of the forrested hillside with huge limestone boulders, canyons and moss-covered seeps.

  • Enjoy breathtaking views of the refuge and the surrounding Hill Country.

  • Learn about native plants, wildlife, and the geological features that make this area unique.

  • Guided stops along the way to share stories and insights about this special place.

By the end of this hike, you’ll have welcomed the New Year fully immersed in nature, beauty, and adventure.

MEETING LOCATION: There are multiple trailheads at Warbler Vista. We will meet at the Quarry Canyon Trailhead. There is parking available at the trailhead.

RESTROOMS: There are restrooms at Warbler Vista at the Warbler Vista parking lot which is the next parking lot after the Quarry Canyon Trailhead.
