Description

Discover Hidden Wildflower Treasures at Balcones Canyonlands!

Explore wildflowers at Eckhardt,  exclusive areas rarely seen by the public—completely free this spring!

Join us for a special wildflower walk at Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge: the Eckhardt Tract. This area is normally closed to the public, making this a unique opportunity to experience the refuge's hidden beauty!

As we wander through these pristine habitats, we'll slow down to appreciate the incredible diversity of wildflowers that call this refuge home. Together, we'll use our knowledge and field guides to identify blooms, learn about their ecological roles, and discover their fascinating uses.

This is more than just a hike—it's a chance to deepen your connection with nature, expand your wildflower identification skills, and enjoy the peaceful rhythm of the natural world. You'll leave feeling confident using field guides and apps to identify wildflowers wherever your adventures take you!

Who is this hike for?
Whether you're a curious beginner or an experienced botanist, you're welcome here! We'll move at a relaxed pace along easily accessible, relatively flat trails, taking time to examine the shapes, colors, and intricate details of each bloom.

If you're familiar with plants and flowers, we'd love to have you share your knowledge as we learn from each other and the landscape around us.

What to expect:
We’ll hike about 2–2.5 miles.   Expect sunny, exposed stopping points, so a hat and sunscreen are your friends.

What to bring:
Sturdy shoes, water, sunscreen, bug spray, and optional gear- camera, field guide or binoculars.     Join us for a rare chance to explore, create, and immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscapes of Balcones Canyonlands!
